Listen to the People

For three days now we've had large rallies in major cities including NYC, Chicago, Cleveland, and St Louis. What is that telling us, I ask you? Well it's telling me that there's something really wrong going on in the US and it's time for change.

We've  had two grand jury's within a couple weeks or so, decide not to indict cops that killed unarmed black men. Mike Brown in Ferguson and Eric Garner in New York City.

Well, actually there was one indictment in the case of Eric Garner. The man with the video camera! I thought this was a joke tweet, seriously my mind could not comprehend that the only one being held accountable in the case was the guy with the camera Ramsey Orta. Of course it couldn't be for holding the camera, it's for an unrelated incident. Listen to what the man says, cops set him up. Truly I must question whether his accusation is true because, the fact is that, I did just watch a cop murder a man for selling single cigarettes.

Think about this, we are indicting the man that held the camera recording the entire travesty unlike in Ferguson. What are we saying here? Are we saying shut up we don't want to see the truth, we don’t want to hear a dying mans last words as he begs for his life and we don’t want to know that a police officer murdered a man. A peace officer, a man who has sworn to protect and serve the people.

Now here's the thing, on one hand we have so much respect for an African American man that we've made him our president and at the same time we're killing his race and trying to sweep it under the rug. This doesn't make sense, these two things just don't go together. What in the world is going on here? Is the entire nation mad or is it just me? And what about the protests, are these people outraged or crazy too?

Here are images and stories I found particularly revealing about the issues:

Listen to Eric Garner's words:

Listen to the words of an officer when asked why didn't resuscitate:

"Why is no one doing CPR?" a witness at the scene asks.
"He's breathing," an officer responds back.

In all honesty, is the majority of the nation saying we don’t care about a black mans life? Or is the truth that the majority's wishes are not being carried out by the justice system. And if so, then why not? Could it be that the justice system is not serving the wishes of the people at all? And if not, who are they serving? Could it be what has been termed an elite minority? Actually a racist elite minority that spews out garbage to confuse issues by diverting our attention and blaming the victims.

So many questions.

Is the majority ignoring the facts? Is the majority hearing the whole story on issues? Or are they fed scraps of rhetoric from major news hubs, some of which prefer to act as if nothing is going on at all and that singing is going on around the Christmas tree instead of shouts of outrage.

America this is our wake up call, the alarm is going off, the bell is tolling  I Can't Breathe, Hands Up Don’t Shoot, Black Lives Matter, Eric Garner, Mike Brown, This Ends Today, and Enough is Enough. We must quit hitting the snooze button and dreaming of singing around the tree and instead face the facts that we're actually hearing shouts of outrage against injustice.

We must join our voices so the majority can be heard. Wake up! Listen to the People.

I'll be posting here, I'll be sharing on social media, and I'll be out in my community shouting Eric Garner's last words: I Can't Breathe, I Can't Breathe, I Can't Breathe, I Can't Breathe, I Can't Breathe, I Can't Breathe, I Can't Breathe, I Can't Breathe, I Can't Breathe, I Can't Breathe, I Can't Breathe.

Thank you for reading, please share your thoughts. I'm listening.
